Marc Olmsted @ Huston-Tillotson University Saturday April 25th, 2009 10:00 AM
We are happy to announce that Marc Olmsted will be hosting a poetry workshop entitled “Word Flashes & Eye Snapshots: Sketching Your Life Awake” as part of The Austin International Poetry Festival. “Sketching” was Jack Kerouac’s term for recording images seen and the associations and memories they invoke with a snapshot-like technique of minute particulars and attention to the words that convey them precisely rather than with “editorial” language (generalities of object and emotion). Poets, fiction writers and journal keepers are all welcome to participate in this two hour workshop! The workshop will take place on Saturday April 25th, 2009 at Huston-Tillotson University (900 Chicon St. Austin, TX) in the Evans Building Room 300. The workshop will be held from 10 AM till 12 noon.

Allen Ginsberg said Marc Olmsted was “…one of the few practitioners post-Kerouac that had picked up on the loose and lucid form that Kerouac had developed.”
From this comes the basis of Marc’s workshop, which typically covers a ten week period, but will be tailored for this special presentation during National Poetry Month.
